Welcome to the joint XXXth IUGB Congress (International Union of Game Biologists) and Perdix XIII in Barcelona, Spain, 5th-9th September 2011.
The University of Barcelona, in co-operation with The Department of Agriculture, Farming, Fish, Food and Environment, the Instituto de Investigación en Recursos Cinegéticos and the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust invite you to the next IUGB Congress, in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, 5th-9th September 2011.
Every two years since the mid-1950’s, the International Union of Game Biologists (IUGB) has brought together international wildlife biologists, forestry scientists, veterinarians, game managers, hunters and others with an interest in game or wildlife biology. The IUGB encourages the exchange of scientific and practical knowledge in the field of game and wildlife management, the broad field of game biology and international co-operation in game and wildlife management. The aim of the conference is to create a bridge among scientists, wildlife managers and authorities and those studying the human dimensions of wildlife management.
Perdix XIII will, after Limassol in 2011 and Braga 2003, join the IUGB Congress series for the third time in its history. Founded in the 1960s, the Perdix series has traditionally attracted Partridge, Quail and Francolin researchers and conservationists across Europe and North America. In order to make the Perdix series even more attractive to gamebird biologists, we would like to welcome any other gamebird specialist, be it pheasant, cracid, megapode or grouse from anywhere in the world. This joint Congress will provide a forum for sharing current developments in gamebird and mammal wildlife research and management, as well offering an excellent opportunity to identify research gaps, conservation action needs and co-ordinated research projects.
We expect 400 attendees from about 40 countries, including many of the word’s leading wildlife biologists, to come to Barcelona. This will be a wonderful opportunity for young researchers to interact with senior members of the scientific community.
Long renowned as a centre for the arts, graced by such luminaries as Picasso, Miró and Casals, Barcelona is increasingly becoming a dynamic scientific research centre right on the beautiful Mediterranean.
The general topic of the congress will be:
“Human-wildlife conflicts and peace-building strategies”.
The main topics of the plenary sessions are:
- Wildlife biology, behaviour and game species management.
- Veterinary aspects of wildlife and conservation.
- Interactions humans-wildlife.
- Methodologies, models and techniques.
- Species extinctions and population dynamics.
- Human dimensions of game wildlife management.
- Wildlife law and policy.
- Conservation and management of migratory game species.
In addition, there will be a number of specific workshops held during the congress.
